I love to learn about fused glass whether it is through classes (see August Blogs), eBooks, or actual books. I also like trying new products therefore, I thought I would write a few product and book reviews on the various items I have purchased. Please understand this is my personal view and is not intended to offend anyone. I just like trying new things and I would like to share my experiences with others. I am not paid to write these reviews.
Notice I included two books in this book review? Well there are two reasons, the same author wrote them both, and second I felt the same about both books so why separate the two reviews. Both books are project books and do not contain a lot of basic fused glass information.
Destination Innovation does have firing guidelines and I liked how she included a firing schedule for keeping embossing. However, some of the fused glass projects are difficult to follow because the instructions do not have step-by-step pictures next to them. Moreover, some of the projects e.g. blocks and sinks, were beautiful but the instructions were not detailed enough to explain the procedures. That being said some projects can be determined by the final colored picture. Albeit the colored pictures are dispersed throughout the book, however the colored pictures do list where the instructions are located. Bottom-line I found the book difficult to follow, I constantly was looking between the colored picture and the instructions and again the instructions were not detailed.
Fireworks is a fused glass project book and a very basic one. It has a lot of kites but not much information or instructions.
Bottom-line, If you are looking for only project books, you might consider these. Albeit for more detailed information about fusing you should try another one of the books I've reviewed.
