Not to long ago I took a seminar on project management through Fred Pryor. During the seminar our facilitator / instructor talked to us about Tom Miller's philosophy regarding self-discipline and emotional control. The facilitator talked about Miller's analogy of horse and rider. The horse represents a person's sub-conscious and our emotions. The rider is our logical mind. So when our emotions take over it means the horse is in control verse our rider. He recommended using a horse and rider (toy, picture etc) as a trigger to remind you to stay in control of your emotions and as a reminder the only person you can control is you? Also the mantra of "if it happened, it was suppose to happen, because it did happen".
So I'm sure you are thinking OK Karen what in the world are you talking about. Well I have two idiosyncrasy that are related. One, I have a short temper when I'm driving and two I tend to get my feelings hurt easily so this concept of keeping my emotions under control is really helpful to me.
So I made a charm with a horse and rider for my car to help me remember I'm in control of my emotions and I made a sign for my office with the mantra above. Then I made a backpack charm for Madi to help her remember she is control of her emotions too. (After all, she is her mother's daughter.)
The facilitator said anytime you are trying to change something so ingrained a trigger is helpful. If you have any questions or want a charm with a horse or horse and rider please email me.
Looking forward to your comments on this one!.
